Reading is a complex process that involves cognitive aspects which require suitable strategies to enable readers to gain meaning from the text that they have read. The effects of wrong perspective about reading, wrong choice of strategies applied when reading and the task that has been read are among the problems often occurred in the reading process. Hence, this research is intended to investigate the awareness level of meta-cognition when students read texts in the Malay language. This descriptive study consists of samples of 120 arts and science streams Form Four students from three schools around the Hulu Langat District, Selangor, Malaysia. Questionnaires on meta-cognition awareness and text comprehension test are used for data collection process. The research findings have revealed that students used meta-cognition strategies when reading texts. This is also in regards with the relationship between the level of meta-cognition strategy and school streams as well as gender.
